The Golden Knight

"You wanna know how he came to be The Golden Knight? Well then let me tell you. It all started at a tourney."

Richard paused. His eyes stared at the floor, his mind traveled back to the past as he recalled. Then he was there. A young lad he was once who sat on the sides to watch his brother at a tourney. His little brother. 

"The King of the Guardians has called upon a tourney to celebrate our victory from the last war. Our men fought hard and bravely for our kingdom and for our King. So it was only proper for us to celebrate through a contest. It was to determine who would be the next Golden Knight fore the one before died fighting valiantly in the war." Richard lifted his hand to take a sip from his cup. His eyes gazed briefly at his listener as he so eagerly shared the story. "Eddy had been groomed by our father to be Commander someday. He was never intended to be the Golden Knight. However, Edward dreamt  to be one. He would practice every day even to the point where his hands would be covered in callouses. He slept, ate and practiced over and over again." A smile appeared on his face. "I told him he was obsessed with such a dream and he told me that dreams can come true if one wishes hard enough. Eddy had always been resilient." Richard sat as he continued. A big sigh came out of his mouth after. "So you can imagine his excitement when he heard about the tourney. Oh he was smiling ear to ear with that smug smile of his." 

"So did his dreams came true?"

"I see you are as impatient as your father, Aidean." Richard gave the little child a chuckle before he took another sip of his wine. 

"Dreams do come true for some indeed. After defeating several other men who had the same dream as his, he stood last. A victor. However, some weren't too happy about it nor agreed with the results. For you see, his name was never on the list. But there he stood with his golden armor and obsidian sword he made himself. And the crowd cheered for his name while the defeated didn't. Nevertheless, he became the Golden Knight and had served the King of the Guardians well and with honor. So much that he was willing to lose an eye for it during the very last war."

"Now he is called The One-Eyed Knight. Fore the wars are done and The Golden Knight is of no use anymore. Humans can be too judgmental sometimes." He smiled at the red-haired lad sitting in front of him. The lad's determined looks reminded him of the young Edward. A look of a true lion. It made him proud as a grandfather. He gave him a nod and was about to stand up to do other things when Aidean spoke up once more.

"So who became the Commander?"

"You're speaking to him now, my child." Richard smiled before he started to make his way towards the door. "Go to sleep, young lion. There are more stories waiting for you in the next days."
